Ellen Euler (* 1977 in Wiesbaden ) is a German lawyer .

Euler studied law at the University of Halle-Wittenberg , the University of Leipzig , the University of Siena and the University of Münster . She holds a Master of Laws degree from the University of Hanover and the University of Bologna . At the University of Freiburg , she was awarded a thesis on the subject of cultural memory in the age of digital and networked media and its rights. Status quo of the legal, in particular copyright framework conditions of inventory building, inventory maintenance and communicative as well as commercial inventory transfer of cultural expressions in the age of digital and networked media through libraries, archives and museums in Germany and regulatory alternatives . Between April 2006 and the end of 2010, Euler worked at the Center for Applied Law at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology . She was then head of the office and deputy managing director of the German Digital Library and, as the person responsible for finances as well as legal questions and public relations, was significantly involved in its development.

Euler has been a founding professor for the field of Open Access / Open Data at the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences since July 2017 . Before that, she taught information law in Potsdam and at the University of Hamburg .

During his studies, Euler specialized in questions and problems of information law , copyright and legal informatics . In her dissertation , she examined the question of how the framework conditions for the transmission and communication work of libraries, archives and museums must look like in the future in order to be able to fulfill their task in the digital future. Even after that, digitization and the issues of dealing with cultural memory are the central focus of work and research. She advocates free access to “digital memory” and the highest possible data quality. Euler is a member of Europeana's Members Council .
