Paul Kristian Klimpel (born August 12, 1970 in Minden ( Westphalia )) is a German lawyer and cultural manager .

Klimpel studied law in Bonn, later in Munich, where he also enrolled in philosophy, psychology and social sciences at the Jesuit University of Philosophy. After completing his studies in philosophy in 1998, he came to Berlin for an internship. His dissertation at the Humboldt University deals with “tutelage and the protection of freedom”.

He has been involved in various cultural institutions since the 1990s. In 2002 he came to the Deutsche Kinemathek Foundation , of which he was Administrative Director from 2006 to 2011. In this role he was also the managing director of the media library network . He deals with the legal framework of museums and archives, in particular with copyright and with the fundamental organizational, technical and legal changes in memory organizations as a result of digitization in various statements and in symposia. In 2011 he initiated the event series “ Shaping Access! “About cultural heritage in the digital world. He has been working as a lawyer in Berlin since 2012. In 2013, together with Jürgen Keiper, he led an interdisciplinary group of experts on long-term digital archiving, which formulated the “Berlin appeal to preserve digital cultural heritage”.
