IC 1099 is a bar-spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Dragon in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 403 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 145,000 ly.
In the same area of ​​the sky there are u. a. the galaxies NGC 5862 , NGC 5866 , NGC 5867 , NGC 5879 .

The supernovae SN 1940C (Type-II) and SN 2010av (Type-Ib / c) were observed here.

The object was discovered on June 8, 1890 by Edward D. Swift .
