NGC 5899 is an 11.8 mag bright bar -spiral Seyfert galaxy (type 2) of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Bear Keeper and about 120 million light years from the Milky Way.

It was discovered on March 18, 1787 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "pB, E, BNM and faint branch 2 ′ long, 0.25 ′ broad".
