NGC 5894 is a 12.7 mag bright bar spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBm in the constellation Dragon in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 117 million light years from the Milky Way and about 100,000 ly in diameter.
The object was discovered on May 25, 1788 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "pB, mE, nearly in meridian, 2 'long, 0.5' broad".
