The former office building of the British & Irish Steampacket Company (abbreviated: B&I) is at Sir John Rogerson's Quay (No. 20-24) in Dublin , Ireland . It is a listed building and has monument number 7547 on the Dublin City Council's Record of Protected Structures . The building is one of the few remaining older buildings at Sir John Rogerson's Quay, as most former business premises for the purpose of rehabilitation were demolished.
The building previously served as the office of the British & Irish Steampacket Company. It was designed and built in 1910 by the architecture firm WH Byrne & Son. B&I was founded in Dublin in 1836 as part of the first paddle steamer fleet. In 1965, B&I was taken over by the Irish government, but in 1981 had significant financial problems. These problems as well as numerous labor disputes dragged on until the beginning of 1992. The company was then privatized and taken over by the Irish Continental Line, which eventually led to its liquidation.
