John Pilger (2011)

John Pilger (born October 9, 1939 in Sydney , Australia ) is an Australian journalist and documentary filmmaker .

From 1963 to 1986 Pilger was the head of the Foreign Office of the Daily Mirror . Since then he has been working as a freelance journalist. In 1968 he was a direct witness to the assassination of the US Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy in Los Angeles and, based on his experiences, takes the view that there was another shooter.

Pilger has made more than 50 films and has written for many well-known English language newspapers during his career (e.g. The Independent , The Guardian and The New York Times ).

Awarded numerous journalism prizes, Pilger is one of the most prominent English-speaking journalists. In 2003 he received the Sophie Prize for his special commitment to human rights.

Pilger is involved in the movement “ Democracy now! “And was also critical of Obama's policies, which, in his opinion, continued to pursue the goal of previous US governments of international domination. He is a member of the Provisional Committee of the International Organization for a Participatory Society .

Pilger has a son Sam (* 1973) and a daughter Zoe (* 1984).
