José da Costa Soares

Colonel José da Costa Soares (2017)

José da Costa Soares (campaign name: Trix , born April 10, 1960 in Portuguese Timor ) is an officer in the Defense Forces of East Timor (F-FDTL). He is a veteran of the liberation struggle against the Indonesian occupation. Among other things, he was active in Wasa-Diga ( Suco Loi-Huno ) as a commander of a guerrilla unit of the FALINTIL .

After the Indonesians left in 1999, Soares became an officer in the newly founded F-FDTL. On February 2, 2011, Soares was promoted to lieutenant colonel. Since May 20, 2012 he has been Colonel (Coronel) military chief on the staff of the President of East Timor (Chefe da Casa Militar do Presidente da República) .

On May 10, 2017 Soares was awarded the Medal of the Ordem de Timor-Leste .
