José da Costa Ximenes (2019)

José da Costa Ximenes (born July 14, 1971 in Baucau , Portuguese Timor ) is the Attorney General of East Timor .

Career

From 1994 to 1999, Ximenes studied at Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta ( Indonesia ) and received a law degree. While still under UN administration (UNTAET), Ximenes worked from 2000 to 2002 as a deputy administrative judge at the district court in Suai . From July 2003 to May 2005 he was an administrative judge here. At the same time, Ximenes was also a judge of the Special Panels for Serious Crimes (SPSC). Between 2004 and 2007 he took part in the training for prosecutors and public defenders at the Legal Training Center in Dili and was a professor at the Universidade da Paz (UNPAZ). Until June 9, 2009, Ximenes was district attorney in the Baucau districts , from July 2011 in the Dili district .

On April 11, 2013, President Taur Matan Ruak appointed him prosecutor general. The swearing-in ceremony followed on April 15 in the East Timor’s presidential palace . One month before the end of the presidential term, Taur Matan Ruak extended Ximenes' term of office for another four years on April 28, 2017.

In 2017, Ximenes received the Ordem de Timor-Leste on the ribbon.
