Public Prosecutor General of East Timor
The Public Prosecutor General of East Timor (officially: Procuradoria Geral da República , German Public Prosecutor General of the Republic , also Ministério Público ) is the highest authority in the Public Prosecutor of East Timor . It is based in the Colmera district of the state capital Dili .
The authority
The Attorney General's Office includes the Attorney General, his deputy, the Supreme Council of Public Prosecutors and the technical and administrative service. The attorney general is in charge.
The attorney general's office serves to defend democratic law. She heads, coordinates and supervises the public prosecutor's office. The General Prosecutor's Office appoints and dismisses prosecutors, delegates tasks, promotes and relieves them and also recognizes the professional merits of prosecutors. It also takes disciplinary action against public prosecutors if necessary. The East Timorese government is advised by the Public Prosecutor's Office on the legality of contracts and, if requested, issues opinions on legal issues. Proposals for legislative measures, the efficiency of law enforcement and the improvement of the judiciary are submitted to the government through the Minister of Justice . If in doubt, shortcomings and contradictions in legal texts the Prosecutor General informed of the Ministry of Justice , the National Parliament of East Timor . The criminal investigation department's procedures and activities are monitored by the General Prosecutor's Office.
Attorney General
The Attorney General is appointed by the President of the Republic after consulting the government. The attorney general is selected from among distinguished lawyers and has a term of four years. The term of office can be extended once for a further four years.
The Attorney General directs the Attorney General and represents it in court. He can go to the Tribunal de Recurso de Timor-Leste , the country's highest court, to review the constitutionality of laws. The attorney general answers questions from the president and submits an annual report to the national parliament. The Attorney General convenes the Supreme Council of Public Prosecutors and chairs its session. The government advises the attorney general through the minister of justice of the measures necessary to comply with the constitution. In addition, the Attorney General presides over the public prosecutors of the republic and the municipalities. Then there are the general duties of the Attorney General.
