Adérito Hugo da Costa (born December 27, 1968 in Same , Portuguese Timor ) is a politician and journalist from East Timor . He is a member of the Congresso Nacional da Reconstrução Timorense (CNRT) party. From 2016 to 2017 Costa was President of the East Timorese National Parliament . He has a bachelor's degree in political science.

Career

From 1993 to 2007 Costa worked as a journalist, first for the daily newspaper Suara Timor Timur (now Suara Timor Lorosa'e ), then for the Timor Post, which he founded . Costa has been a member of the East Timorese national parliament since 2007. From 2012 to 2016 he was Vice President of Parliament. On May 5th, he replaced the resigned President of Parliament Vicente da Silva Guterres . On September 5, 2017, Costa lost to Aniceto Guterres Lopes in the newly elected parliament with only one vote in the election of the President of Parliament.

Until the early dissolution of parliament in 2018, Costa was a member of the Commission for Foreign Affairs, Defense and National Security (Commission B). He was also a member of the Fundação Timor Beran , the Board of Directors of Radio Difusaun Timor-Leste (EIS) and the parliamentary friendship group East Timor-Japan .

In the new elections on May 12, 2018 , Costa ran for position 19 on the list for the Aliança para Mudança e Progresso (AMP), which also includes the CNRT, and moved back into parliament. He chairs the Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security Commission (Commission B).

Costa is chairman of the legal commission of the CNRT and the board of directors of the Global Organization of parliamentarian against corruption (GOPAC) Timor-Leste and a member of the National Security Council .

In 2017 Costa received the Ordem de Timor-Leste on the ribbon.
