Guilhermino da Silva (born November 22, 1957 in Ainaro , Portuguese Timor ; † October 3, 2019 in the municipality of Ainaro , East Timor ) was an East Timorese lawyer .

Career

Silva graduated in law in 1991. From 2000 he was a judge at the district court of Suai (now the Cova Lima municipality ). Here he was president of the court until 2005. From 2003 to 2004 Silva completed a course at the Centro de Estudos Judiciários ( German Center for Law Studies ) in Lisbon ( Portugal ). This was followed by training at the Centro de Formação Jurídica ( German legal training center ) from 2005 to 2006 . From July 2007 Silva was a judge at the district court of Dili . Since September 9, 2011, he has been a member of the Tribunal de Recurso de Timor-Leste ( tetum Tribunal de Rekursu , German court of appeal ) as a judge.     

On February 28, 2014, Silva was appointed President of the Tribunal de Recurso, East Timor's highest court, by President Taur Matan Ruak . As President of the Court of Appeal, Silva was also ex officio President of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary . He took office on March 3rd. He followed Cláudio de Jesus Ximenes (2003-2014). In 2015/16, Silva was temporarily replaced by Maria Natércia Gusmão Pereira . Silva had suffered a stroke and had to go to Singapore for further treatment . Even after that, Silva was visibly weak and his mobility was restricted.

On April 24, 2017, Silva submitted his resignation to President Taur Matan Ruak for health reasons. Maria Natércia Gusmão Pereira took over the office of president of the court on April 28th until Deolindo dos Santos was appointed as his successor on April 28th.

In 2017 Silva received the Ordem de Timor-Leste on the ribbon.
