Lee Chiong Giam

Lee Chiong Giam is a Singaporean diplomat.

Career

In 1967, Lee entered the civil service. He has held various positions in the ministries of health and foreign affairs and with the People's Association, a government agency overseeing social organizations and neighborhood services. 1979 Lee was director of the "Regional and Economic Division" in the Singapore Foreign Ministry. From 1982 to 1989 he was Singapore's High Commissioner for Papua New Guinea. In parallel, Lee was Chief Executive Director of the People's Association from 1983 to 1999.

From 1997 to 2005, Lee was the Singapore High Commissioner for Fiji. On October 26th, he was appointed Singaporean High Commissioner for Pakistan and Singaporean Ambassador to East Timor . Lee held the offices until 2014. All posts as diplomatic delegate had Singapore as their official seat, as the country does not have an embassy in the other countries.

In 2015, Lee went into retirement.

Awards

In 1979 Lee was awarded the Public Administration Medal in silver and in 1999 the Public Administration Medal in gold. In May 2000, the Friend of Labor Award from the Singapore National Trade Union Congress followed for Lee's services to the trade union movement.

In 2012 he received the Insígnia des Ordem de Timor-Leste from East Timor’s President José Ramos-Horta . In addition, Lee was awarded the Public Service Star in Singapore.
