Ernesto Fernandes (born June 18, 1945 in Hatulia , Ermera , Portuguese Timor ), fighting name Dudu ( German  shock ), is a politician and former freedom fighter from East Timor . Carvalho is a member of the Partido Democrático (PD) .

Career

In the liberation struggle against the Indonesian occupation , Fernandes was in command of a unit of the Forças Armadas de Libertação Nacional de Timor-Leste (FALINTIL). He was president of the organizing committee for the erection of the memorial to the Aifu massacre , the foundation stone of which was laid on April 7, 2016 in Poetete .

Fernandes, as chairman of the PD in Ermera, made it to fourth place on the list and entered the East Timorese national parliament in the parliamentary elections in East Timor in 2017 . Here he was a member of the Commission for Health, Education, Culture, Veterans and Gender Equality (Commission F) and a deputy member of the Administrative Council of Parliament. Since the minority government of FRETILIN and PD could not prevail in parliament, President Francisco Guterres dissolved it and called for new elections. In the new election on May 12, 2018 , Fernandes was able to return to fourth place on the PD list and once again entered parliament, where the PD now belongs to the opposition. He is now a member of the Parliamentary Commission on Education, Health, Social Security and Gender Equality (Commission F).

Award

In 2015 Fernandes, representing the members of the group who hid the independence leader Xanana Gusmão in his home in Lulilau (Suco Humboe ) in 1991 , received the Ordem de Timor-Leste . All group members collectively bear the award.
