The Shwegugyi Temple ( Burmese ရွှေ ဂူ ကြီး ဘုရား ; pronounced: ʃwèɡùdʑí pʰəjá) is a Buddhist temple in Bagan , Myanmar .

history

It was built in 1131 under King Alaungsithu . His son Narathu suffocated his father with a blanket here in 1167.

description

The cubic structure stands on a 4 m high terrace, its three-tier roof is crowned by a slim Shikhara . To the north, in the direction of the palace, there is a vestibule. The Burmese style is already well developed here; In contrast to the temples in the Pyu style, the Shwegugyi looks elegant and light and is bright and friendly inside because of the larger portals and windows.
