Rui Quartin Santos

Rui Quartin Santos is a Portuguese diplomat .

Career

Santos held several ambassadorial posts.

From February 19, 1999 to May 12, 2002 he was the Portuguese ambassador in Cape Verde , where he had been the head of the embassy since February 10, 1999.

On May 20, 2002, the state of East Timor became independent. Portugal had previously had Pedro Luís Baptista Moutinho de Almeida as a representative in Dili . On May 21, 2002, Santos was appointed the first Portuguese ambassador to East Timor . He held the office until June 30, 2004.

Santos' next ambassadorial post was in the People's Republic of China , where he was Portuguese ambassador from October 2, 2006 to May 6, 2010 .

Finally, the post of Portuguese ambassador to Australia followed , based in Canberra . The office included secondary accreditations for the Cook Islands , Fiji , Palau , Papua New Guinea , Kiribati , the Marshall Islands , the Federated States of Micronesia , Nauru , New Zealand , Tonga , Samoa , the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu .

Awards

In 2012, Santos received the Medal des Ordem de Timor-Leste from East Timor's President José Ramos-Horta .
