Joseph Patrick Kennedy (born September 24, 1952 in Brighton , Massachusetts ) is an American politician ( Democratic Party ) and businessman.

Life

Joseph (Joe) Kennedy, who was born in the Boston borough of Brighton, is the second oldest child and the eldest son of the eleven children of US Senator Robert F. Kennedy and his wife Ethel Skakel-Kennedy . In 1979 he founded Citizens Energy Corporation , an energy company that supplies poor people with discounted heating oil, among other things. From 1987 to 1999, he served as a member of the Massachusetts Eighth Congressional District in the House of Representatives in Washington . His son Joseph Patrick Kennedy III was elected to the House of Representatives in 2012.

Since 1999, Kennedy has been back in an executive position at Citizens Energy Corporation . He was being discussed as the successor to his uncle Edward Kennedy, who died of a brain tumor, for the position of Senator from Massachusetts in the Federal Senate in Washington, but did not apply for his party's nomination for the by-election. The nomination went to Martha Coakley , who in turn was defeated by Republican Scott Brown .

In 2015, Kennedy was awarded the Medal of the Ordem de Timor-Leste .
