Samuel Davis

Samuel Davis (* 1774 in Bath , Province of Massachusetts Bay , †  April 20, 1831 there ) was an American politician . Between 1813 and 1815 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Born in what is now Maine , Samuel Davis was active in the trade and later acquired a number of ships with which he entered the Africa and West India trade. Politically, he became a member of the Federalist Party founded by Alexander Hamilton in the late 1790s . In 1803 and between 1808 and 1812 he was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives . Between 1813 and 1818 he was a board member ( Overseer ) of Bowdoin College . He also got into the banking business and became President of Lincoln Bank in Bath in 1813 .

In the congressional election of 1812 Davis was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 16th  electoral district of Massachusetts , where he succeeded Peleg Tallman on March 4, 1813 . Until March 3, 1815, he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . This was shaped by the events of the British-American War . In 1815 and 1816, Samuel Davis was once again a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Otherwise he continued to work in the Africa and West India trade. He died on April 20, 1831 in his native Bath.
