Ashley B. Wright

Ashley Bascom Wright (born May 25, 1841 in Hinsdale , Berkshire County , Massachusetts , †  August 14, 1897 in North Adams , Massachusetts) was an American politician . Between 1893 and 1897 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Ashley Wright attended the public schools in his home country as well as the Lincoln Academy in Hinsdale. In 1861 he moved to North Adams. There he was deputy head of the tax authorities in the tenth financial district of his state until 1865. Then he worked in trade. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . He sat on the local council and from 1884 to 1887 in the district council, which he chaired for a year. In the years 1890 and 1891 Wright was a member of the State Executive Council of Massachusetts .

In the congressional election of 1892 Wright was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of Massachusetts , where he succeeded Charles S. Randall on March 4, 1893 . After two re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his death on August 14, 1897 . From 1895 he was chairman of the Committee on Mileage .
