William Henry Carter

William Henry Carter (born June 15, 1864 in Needham , Massachusetts , †  April 23, 1955 ) was an American politician . Between 1915 and 1919 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Carter attended the public schools of his home country and then the Comers Commercial College in Boston . He then worked in various functions for the company William Carter Co. , which manufactured underwear. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1906 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Massachusetts ; between 1907 and 1908 he was a member of the state executive committee of his party.

In the 1914 congressional election , Carter was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 13th  constituency of Massachusetts , where he succeeded John Joseph Mitchell on March 4, 1915 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1919 . These were shaped by the events of the First World War . In 1918 he renounced another candidacy.

After his time in the US House of Representatives, William Carter also entered the real estate industry. From 1918 he was president of the company William Carter Co. , for which he had previously worked. He died on April 23, 1955 in Needham, where he was also buried.
