Gideon Gardner

Gideon Gardner (born May 30, 1759 in Nantucket , Province of Massachusetts Bay , †  March 22, 1832 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1809 and 1811 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Gideon Gardner received only a limited education. Later he went to sea and managed to buy his own ship. In addition, he was generally active in the trade. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson in the late 1790s . In the congressional election of 1808 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eighth constituency of Massachusetts , where he succeeded Isaiah L. Green on March 4, 1809 . Until March 3, 1811 he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . After that, his predecessor Green also succeeded him.

After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Gideon Gardner resumed his previous activities. He died in Nantucket on March 22, 1832.
