Walter Folger

Walter Folger Jr. (born June 12, 1765 in Nantucket , Province of Massachusetts Bay , †  September 8, 1849 there ) was an American politician . Between 1817 and 1821 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Walter Folger attended the public schools in his home country. After studying law and being admitted to the bar, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Republican Party . From 1809 to 1815 he was a member of the Massachusetts Senate .

In the 1816 congressional election , Folger was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the ninth constituency of Massachusetts , where he succeeded John Reed on March 4, 1817 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1821 . After his time in the US House of Representatives, Folger practiced law again. In 1822 he sat again in the State Senate. He died on September 8, 1849 in his hometown of Nantucket.
