George M. Brooks

George Merrick Brooks (born July 26, 1824 in Concord , Massachusetts , †  September 22, 1893 there ) was an American politician . Between 1869 and 1872 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .

Career

George Brooks attended the public schools of his home country and then studied at Harvard University until 1844 . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1847, he began to work in Concord in this profession. He later began a political career as a member of the newly formed Republican Party . In 1858 he was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives ; In 1859 he was a member of the State Senate .

After the resignation of Congressman George S. Boutwell , Brooks was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC at the by-election due for the seventh seat of Massachusetts , where he took up his new mandate on November 2, 1869. After being re-elected, he could remain in Congress until his resignation on May 13, 1872 . Brooks' resignation came after his appointment as judge. He was a probate judge in Middlesex County until his death on September 22, 1893 .
