Robert O. Harris
Robert Orr Harris (born November 8, 1854 in Boston , Massachusetts , † June 13, 1926 in Brockton , Massachusetts) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1911 and 1913 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Robert Harris was the son of Congressman Benjamin W. Harris (1823-1907). He attended the public schools in his home country and the Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire . He then studied at Harvard University until 1877 . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1879, he began to work in Boston and Brockton in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1889 he was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives . Between 1891 and 1901 Harris was a prosecutor for the southeastern district of Massachusetts. He then served as a judge on the Superior Court of Massachusetts between 1902 and 1911 .
In the 1910 congressional election , Harris was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 14th constituency of Massachusetts , where he succeeded Eugene Foss on March 4, 1911 . Since he refused to run again in 1912, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1913 . After his time in the US House of Representatives, Robert Harris practiced as a lawyer again. Between 1921 and 1924 he served as the state attorney for Massachusetts; Harold P. Williams succeeded him in this function . He died in Brockton on June 13, 1926.
