William P. Connery

William Patrick Connery Jr. (born August 24, 1888 in Lynn , Massachusetts , †  June 15, 1937 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1923 and 1937 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Connery attended St. Mary's School in Lynn and then from 1902 to 1904, the Collège de Montréal in Canadian Montreal . Between 1904 and 1908 he studied at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester . From 1908 to 1916 he worked as a theater actor. In 1916 and 1917 he was also a theater manager. During the First World War he served in the US Army . He was deployed in France for 19 months . From 1919 to 1921 Connery worked for an electrical company. He was Secretary to the Mayor of Lynn in 1922 and 1923. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party .

In the 1922 congressional election , Connery was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington in the seventh constituency of Massachusetts, where he succeeded Robert S. Maloney on March 4, 1923 . After seven re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his death . In the meantime he was chairman of the Committee on Labor . Since 1933, Congress passed the first of the federal government's New Deal laws under President Franklin D. Roosevelt . In 1935, the provisions of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution were applied for the first time , according to which the legislative period of the Congress ends or begins on January 3rd.

In 1934, Connery was admitted to the bar after studying law. But he didn't do much work in this profession. After his death on June 15, 1937, his brother Lawrence J. Connery, born in 1895, was elected as his successor in Congress.
