Shearjashub Bourne

Shearjashub Bourne (born June 14, 1746 in Barnstable , Province of Massachusetts Bay , †  March 11, 1806 in Boston , Massachusetts ) was an American politician . Between 1791 and 1795 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Shearjashub Bourne grew up during the British colonial era. Until 1764 he studied at Harvard College . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer, he began to work in this profession in Boston. At the same time he embarked on a political career. Between 1782 and 1785 and again from 1788 to 1790 he was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives . In 1788 he was a delegate to the meeting at which the State of Massachusetts ratified the United States Constitution. Politically he was close as a member of the pro-administration faction of the federal government under President George Washington .

In the congressional elections of 1790 Bourne was elected in the fifth constituency of Massachusetts to the US House of Representatives, which was then still in Philadelphia , where he took up his new mandate on March 4, 1791. After a re-election in the ninth district, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until March 3, 1795 . After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Bourne served as an appellate judge in Suffolk County between 1799 and 1806 . He died in Boston on March 11, 1806.
