Lawrence Joseph Connery (born October 17, 1895 in Lynn , Massachusetts , †  October 19, 1941 in Arlington , Virginia ) was an American politician . Between 1937 and 1941 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Lawrence Connery was the younger brother of Congressman William P. Connery (1888-1937). He attended his home public schools and St. Mary's College in Kansas . He then worked in Lynn as a newspaper reporter. In 1916 he served as a member of the Massachusetts National Guard in a border dispute on the Mexican border. During the First World War he was a soldier in the US Army between 1917 and 1919 . Between 1919 and 1923 he was number and steward on a ship of the United Fruit Company . Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . From 1923 to 1937 he was secretary to his brother William while he was a congressman. After studying law at Georgetown University , he was admitted to the bar in 1926. Connery also acted as a retailer for office supplies and printing supplies.

After the death of his brother, Lawrence Connery was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on September 28, 1937 at the due by-election for the seventh seat of Massachusetts . After two re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his death on October 19, 1941 . During his time in Congress, further New Deal laws were passed by the federal government under President Franklin D. Roosevelt . Connery died in Arlington on October 19, 1941 and was buried in his birthplace, Lynn. His mandate fell to Thomas J. Lane after a special election .
