Francis B. Fay
Francis Ball Fay (born June 12, 1793 in Southboro , Worcester County , Massachusetts , † October 6, 1876 in South Lancaster , Massachusetts) was an American politician . In 1852 and 1853 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Francis Fay received a rather average school education and then worked in trade. Between 1817 and 1832 he was a postman in Southboro. He also served as deputy chief of police in Worcester County from 1824 to 1830. Between 1830 and 1840 he was a member of the Massachusetts General Court on several occasions . Politically, Fay became a member of the Whig Party . He sat in the Massachusetts Senate from 1843 to 1845 and again in 1848 .
After the death of MP Robert Rantoul , Fay was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on December 13, 1852, when the by-election was due for the second seat of Massachusetts . Since he was no longer running in the regular elections of 1852, he could only end the current legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1853 . In 1857, Fay was mayor of Chelsea . From 1858 he lived in Lancaster , where he founded a school. In 1868 he was again a member of the State Senate. Francis Fay died in South Lancaster on October 6, 1876.
