Asahel Stearns

Asahel Stearns (born June 17, 1774 in Lunenburg , Worcester County , Province of Massachusetts Bay , †  February 5, 1839 in Cambridge , Massachusetts ) was an American politician . Between 1815 and 1817 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Asahel Stearns attended Harvard University until 1797 . After studying law and being admitted to the bar, he began working in this profession in Chelmsford . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Federalist Party . In 1813 he was a member of the Massachusetts Senate and was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences . From 1815 he lived in Charlestown .

In the congressional election of 1814 , Stearns was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of Massachusetts , where he succeeded Samuel Dana on March 4, 1815 . Until March 3, 1817 he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . In 1817, Stearns was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives . From 1817 to 1829 he was a professor at Harvard University. He was then again a member of the State Senate in 1830 and 1831. He died in Cambridge on February 5, 1839.
