John F. Fitzgerald

John Francis "Honey Fitz" Fitzgerald (born February 11, 1863 in Boston , Massachusetts , † October 2, 1950 ibid) was an American politician . The former mayor of Boston and members of the House of Representatives was the grandfather of John F. Kennedy .

Political career

Fitzgerald began his political career in 1892 when he was elected to the Massachusetts Senate . From 1895 to 1901 he was a member of the US House of Representatives for the state of Massachusetts. He was Mayor of Boston from 1906 to 1908 and again from 1910 to 1914.

After he had again belonged to Congress from March to October 1919, he failed in further elections, including the election to governor of Massachusetts in 1922. In the following years, he took care of his descendants of the Kennedy Fitzgerald dynasty as an advisor. The two families had been linked to Patrick Joseph Kennedy's son since the wedding of Fitzgerald's eldest daughter Rose and were considered politically very influential.

Trivia

In the 1948 election to Congress, John F. Fitzgerald was responsible for the successful campaign of John F. Kennedy. After the election as President of the United States, Kennedy named the President's yacht Honey Fitz in honor of his grandfather .
