Brian J. Donnelly
Brian Joseph Donnelly (born March 2, 1946 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is an American politician . Between 1979 and 1993 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Brian Donnelly attended private schools in his home country and then until 1963 the Catholic Memorial High School in West Roxbury . He then studied at Boston University until 1970 . In the following years he was a teacher and trainer in Boston public schools. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1973 and 1978 he was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives .
In the 1978 congressional election , Donnelly was elected to the eleventh constituency of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded James A. Burke on January 3, 1979 . After six re-elections, he was able to complete seven legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1993 . In 1992 he renounced another candidacy. Between 1994 and 1997, Donnelly was the successor to Sally G. Cowal as US Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago . In 1998 he took part in the Democratic primaries for the gubernatorial elections , but only finished third behind the victorious Scott Harshbarger and Patricia McGovern .
