George W. Weymouth
George Warren Weymouth (born August 25, 1850 in West Amesbury , Essex County , Massachusetts , † September 7, 1910 in Bingham , Maine ) was an American politician . Between 1897 and 1901 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .
Career
George Weymouth attended public schools in his home country including Merrimac High School . In 1882 he moved to Fitchburg , where he worked in coach construction. He later became manager of the Simonds Rolling Machine Co. Weymouth also went into the banking industry and was director of Fitchburg National Bank between 1892 and 1901 . He was also on the board of numerous other companies in various industries. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1886 he became a member of the Fitchburg parish council; In 1896 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Massachusetts . In the same year he took part as a delegate at the Republican National Convention in St. Louis , at which William McKinley was nominated as a presidential candidate.
In the congressional elections of 1896 Weymouth was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of Massachusetts , where he succeeded Lewis D. Apsley on March 4, 1897 . After being re-elected, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1901 . During this time the Spanish-American War of 1898 fell . In 1900 Weymouth decided not to run again for Congress. After serving in the US House of Representatives, he moved to Fairhaven , where he became President of Atlas Tack Corp. was. He died in a car accident near Bingham on September 7, 1910 and was buried in Fairhaven.
