Henry Francis Naphen (born August 14, 1852 in Ireland , †  June 8, 1905 in Boston , Massachusetts ) was an American politician . Between 1899 and 1903 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In his youth, Henry Naphen and his parents came to Lowell , Massachusetts from their Irish homeland . There he attended public schools. At times he was also given private lessons. He then studied at Harvard University until 1878 . After a subsequent law degree at the School of Law at Boston University and his admission to the bar in 1880, he began to work in this profession in Boston. Between 1882 and 1885 he was a member of the Boston School Board. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . He served in the Massachusetts Senate in 1885 and 1886 .

In the congressional election of 1898 , Naphen was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the tenth constituency of Massachusetts , where he succeeded Samuel J. Barrows on March 4, 1899 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1903 . In 1902 he renounced another candidacy. Henry Naphen died on June 8, 1905 in Boston, where he was also buried.
