John MS Williams

John McKeown Snow Williams (born August 13, 1818 in Richmond , Virginia , †  March 19, 1886 in Cambridge , Massachusetts ) was an American politician . Between 1873 and 1875 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In his youth, John Williams moved to Boston , Massachusetts, where he attended public schools. After that he became active in the trade. He also became a ship owner. Politically, he joined the Republican Party founded in 1854 . In 1856 he was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives ; In 1858 he was a member of the State Senate .

In the congressional election of 1872 Williams was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eighth constituency of Massachusetts , where he succeeded George Frisbie Hoar on March 4, 1873 . Since he was defeated in 1874 by the Democrat William W. Warren , he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1875 . After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, John Williams resumed his previous activities. He died in Cambridge on March 19, 1886.
