Abiel Wood

Abiel Wood (born July 22, 1772 in Wiscasset , Lincoln County , Province of Massachusetts Bay , †  October 26, 1834 in Belfast , Maine ) was an American politician . Between 1813 and 1815 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Abiel Wood attended public schools in his home country and then worked in commerce. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson in the late 1790s . Between 1807 and 1811 and again in 1816 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Massachusetts . In the congressional elections of 1812 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 17th  constituency of Massachusetts , where he succeeded Francis Carr on March 4, 1813 . Since he was not confirmed in 1814, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1815 . This was shaped by the events of the British-American War .

In 1819 Wood was a delegate to the constituent assembly of the future state of Maine; in the years 1820 and 1821 he then held the office of State Councilor there. His main job was in the trade again. He was also a banking agent for the state of Maine until his death on October 26, 1834.
