John A. Keliher

John Austin Keliher (born November 6, 1866 in Boston , Massachusetts , †  September 20, 1938 there ) was an American politician . Between 1903 and 1911 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Keliher attended public schools in his home country and then worked in the real estate industry in Boston. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . He was a member of the House of Representatives from Massachusetts in 1896 and 1897 ; from 1899 to 1900 he was a member of the State Senate . In the congressional elections of 1902 he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the ninth constituency of Massachusetts , where he succeeded Joseph A. Conry on March 4, 1903 . After three re-elections, he was able to complete four legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1911 . In 1910 he was not re-elected.

Between 1915 and 1916, Keliher served as chairman of the Massachusetts Statehouse Building Commission . From 1917 to 1919 he was also a member of a commission for the revision of the state constitution . From 1917 until his death, Keliher was sheriff in Suffolk County . He died in Boston on September 20, 1938.
