Hastings Keith

Keith Hastings (born November 22, 1915 in Brockton , Massachusetts , †  July 19, 2005 there ) was an American politician . Between 1959 and 1973 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Keith Hastings graduated from Brockton High School and Deerfield Academy . He then studied until 1938 at the University of Vermont in Burlington . In 1938 he also graduated from Harvard University . Keith became an officer in the Massachusetts National Guard. During the Second World War he served in the US Army . He was used in Europe. Later he was a colonel in the Army Reserve. In 1948 and 1949 he was on the faculty of the Evening College of Commerce , which is affiliated with Boston University . From 1946 to 1952 he was also the agent and district manager of a life insurance company in Boston. Keith later stayed in the insurance industry, partnering with a general insurance company until 1984. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . From 1953 to 1956 he was a member of the Massachusetts Senate . In 1956 he ran unsuccessfully for Congress .

In the congressional elections of 1958 Keith was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the ninth constituency of Massachusetts , where he succeeded Donald W. Nicholson on January 3, 1959 . After six re-elections, he was able to complete seven legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1973. Since 1963 he represented there as the successor of John W. McCormack the twelfth district of his state. During this time, the Vietnam War and the civil rights movement took place . In 1972 Keith renounced another candidacy.

In 1992 he initially applied within his party for the nomination for the congressional elections that year. But he withdrew this candidacy. Hastings Keith died on July 19, 2005 in his native Brockton.
