F. Bradford Morse
Frank Bradford Morse (born August 7, 1921 in Lowell , Massachusetts , † December 18, 1994 in Naples , Florida ) was an American politician . Between 1961 and 1972 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .
Career
After attending school, Bradford Morse served in the US Army between 1942 and 1946 during World War II . He then studied law at Boston University until 1949, among other things. After being admitted to the bar, he began practicing this profession. In 1949 he also served in the Massachusetts Chief Justice's Office. From 1949 to 1953, Morse lectured in law at Boston University. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . He served on the Lowell Town Council in 1952 and 1953. Then he was part of the administrative team of the US Senate Armed Forces Committee until 1954 . From 1955 to 1958 Morse worked for US Senator Leverett Saltonstall and then until 1960 as Deputy Administrator for the Veterans' Administration , the forerunner of the Department of War Veterans .
In the 1960 congressional elections , Morse was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fifth constituency of Massachusetts , where he succeeded the late Edith Nourse Rogers on January 3, 1961 . After five re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his resignation on May 1, 1972 . During this time, the civil rights movement and the Vietnam War reached their height . He resigned after his appointment as Deputy Secretary General at the UN ( Under Secretary General for Political and General Assembly Affairs ). He held this office between 1972 and 1976. From 1976 to 1986 he was director of the UN development program as the successor to Rudolph A. Peterson . He died on December 18, 1994 in Naples; his urn was buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
