Thomas Rice (politician)

Thomas Rice (born March 30, 1768 in Wiscasset , Lincoln County , Province of Massachusetts Bay , †  August 25, 1854 in Winslow , Maine ) was an American politician . Between 1815 and 1819 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Born in what is now Maine, Thomas Rice studied at Harvard University until 1791 . After a subsequent law degree and his admission to the bar in 1794, he began to work in this profession from 1795 in Winslow in what was then the Maine district of the state of Massachusetts. In 1807 he was a member of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court 's commission to review Kennebec County's lawyers. Politically, he was a member of the Federalist Party . In 1814, he became a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives .

In the 1814 congressional election , Rice was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 18th  electoral district of Massachusetts , where he succeeded John Wilson on March 4, 1815 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1819 . In 1818 it was not confirmed. After his time in the US House of Representatives ended, Rice practiced as a lawyer again. He died in Winslow on August 25, 1854.
