Peleg Coffin

Peleg Coffin Jr. (born November 3, 1756 in Nantucket , Province of Massachusetts Bay , †  March 6, 1805 in Boston , Massachusetts ) was an American politician . Between 1793 and 1795 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Peleg Coffin enjoyed an academic education. He later became President of the New England Marine Insurance Co. At the same time he began a political career. He was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives in 1783, 1784, and 1789 ; between 1785 and 1802 he sat several times in the State Senate . He was a supporter of the federal government under President George Washington ( Pro-Administration Group ).

In the congressional elections of 1792 Coffin was elected to the then newly established tenth constituency of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives, which was still in Philadelphia at the time , where he took up his new mandate on March 4, 1793. Until March 3, 1795 he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . From 1797 to 1802, Coffin was State Treasurer of Massachusetts. He died in Boston on March 6, 1805.
