Harry Irving Thayer
Harry Irving Thayer (born September 10, 1869 in Pembroke , Plymouth County , Massachusetts , † March 10, 1926 in Wakefield , Massachusetts) was an American politician . In 1925 and 1926 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Harry Thayer attended public schools in Hanover . Then he worked in the leather industry. He was the founder and president of Thayer-Ross Co. From 1916 to 1921 he served as president of the New England Shoe and Leather Association . In 1920 and 1921 he was also President of the American Tanners' Council of the United States . At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In June 1924 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Cleveland , where President Calvin Coolidge was nominated for re-election.
In the 1924 congressional election , Thayer was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eighth constituency of Massachusetts , where he succeeded Frederick W. Dallinger on March 4, 1925 . He was able to exercise this mandate until his death on March 10, 1926. After a special election, his predecessor Dallinger was also elected as his successor.
