Stephen F. Lynch (born March 31, 1955 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is an American politician . Since January 2001 he has represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Stephen Lynch attended South Boston High School until 1973 . He completed an apprenticeship in the iron industry and worked in this branch for some time. Until 1988 he continued his education at the Wentworth Institute in Boston. After studying law at the Law School of Boston College and his admission to the bar, he started working for some time in this profession. In 1998 he graduated from Harvard University . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . He was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives in 1995 and 1996 ; from 1997 to 2001 he was a member of the State Senate .

After the death of MP Joe Moakley , Lynch was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the by-election due for the ninth seat of Massachusetts , where he took up his new mandate on October 16, 2001. Having been re-elected in all subsequent elections, including the one in 2016, he can still exercise his mandate in Congress today. His most recent term of office runs until January 3, 2019 with an option for a further candidacy in 2018. Since 2013, he has represented the eighth constituency in the House of Representatives. He is or was a member of the Finance Committee and the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform as well as several sub-committees. During his time as a congressman, the Iraq war and the military operation in Afghanistan fell . In 2013, Lynch ran unsuccessfully in his party's primary election for the US Senate .
