Phineas Bruce

Phineas Bruce (born June 7, 1762 in Mendon , Worcester County , Province of Massachusetts Bay , †  October 4, 1809 in Uxbridge , Massachusetts ) was an American politician . Between 1803 and 1805 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Phineas Bruce studied at Yale College until 1786 . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1790, he began to work in Machias in what was then the Maine district of the state of Massachusetts in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career. He became a member of the Federalist Party founded by Alexander Hamilton in the late 1790s . Between 1791 and 1798 and again in 1800 he was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives .

In the 1802 congressional elections , Bruce was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the then newly established 17th  constituency of Massachusetts . However, for health reasons he was unable to actually exercise his mandate between March 4, 1803 and March 3, 1805. He died in Uxbridge on October 4, 1809.
