Laban Wheaton

Laban Wheaton (born March 13, 1754 in Mansfield , Bristol County , Province of Massachusetts Bay , †  March 23, 1846 in Norton , Massachusetts ) was an American politician . From 1809 to 1817 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Laban Wheaton attended Wrentham Academy and then Harvard College until 1774 . He then studied theology in Woodstock ( Connecticut ). After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1788, he began to work in this profession in Milton . At times he was a judge in Bristol County. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Federalist Party . From 1803 to 1808 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Massachusetts .

In the congressional election of 1808 Wheaton was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the ninth constituency of Massachusetts , where he succeeded Josiah Dean on March 4, 1809 . Reelected three times, he completed four legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1817 . From 1815 he represented the tenth district of his state there as the successor to Elijah Brigham . The British-American War of 1812 fell during his time as MP . After his time in the US House of Representatives, Laban Wheaton served as a judge in various courts. In 1825 he was again a member of the Massachusetts State Parliament.
