William Whiting (politician, 1813)

William Whiting (born March 3, 1813 in Concord , Massachusetts , †  June 29, 1873 in Boston , Massachusetts) was an American politician . In 1873 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Whiting attended the Concord Academy and then studied at Harvard University until 1833 . He then worked as a teacher in Plymouth and Concord. After a subsequent law degree at Harvard and his admission to the bar in 1838, he began to work in this profession in Boston. During the civil war , he worked as a lawyer for the War Ministry between 1862 and 1865 . Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party .

In the congressional election of 1872 Whiting was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of Massachusetts , where he succeeded Ginery Twichell on March 4, 1873 . He was only able to exercise this mandate until his death on June 29, 1873. Henry L. Pierce was then elected to succeed him.
