Joshua Gage

Joshua Gage (born August 7, 1763 in Harwich , Barnstable County , Province of Massachusetts Bay , †  January 24, 1831 in Augusta , Maine ) was an American politician . Between 1817 and 1819 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Joshua Gage attended public schools in his home country and then went into commerce. In 1795 he moved to Augusta in what was then the Maine district of Massachusetts. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson in the late 1790s . In 1805 and 1807 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Massachusetts ; in 1813 and 1815 he was a member of the State Senate . From 1810 until his death in 1831 he was a chamberlain in Kennebec County , which was part of Massachusetts until 1820 and then became part of the new state of Maine.

In the 1816 congressional election , Gage was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 19th  constituency of Massachusetts , where he succeeded Samuel S. Conner on March 4, 1817 . Until March 3, 1819, he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . In 1822 and 1823, Joshua Gage served on the Maine State Council. He died on January 24, 1831 in Augusta, where he was also buried.
