Samuel Ellsworth Winslow (born April 11, 1862 in Worcester , Massachusetts , †  July 11, 1940 there ) was an American politician . Between 1913 and 1925 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Samuel Winslow attended the public schools of his home country and then until 1880 the Worcester Classical High School and the Williston Seminary in Easthampton . Until 1885 Winslow studied at Harvard University . Then he made ice skates. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1890 he was a colonel on the advisory board of Governor John Brackett . Between 1890 and 1892 Winslow led the Republican Party in Worcester; from 1893 to 1894 he was its state chairman. In June 1908 he took part as a delegate at the Republican National Convention in Chicago , where William Howard Taft was nominated as a presidential candidate.

In the 1912 congressional election , Winslow was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of Massachusetts , where he succeeded William Wilder on March 4, 1913 . After six re-elections, he was able to complete seven legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1925 . From 1921 he was chairman of the committee on domestic and foreign trade. World War I fell during his time in Congress . In addition, the 18th and 19th amendments to the Constitution were ratified in 1919 and 1920 . In 1924, Samuel Winslow renounced another congressional candidacy.

After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Winslow served on the federal arbitration commission between the freight forwarders and their employees between 1926 and 1934. There he made it to the chairman of the commission. He died on July 11, 1940 in his hometown of Worcester.
