Lorenzo Sabine

Lorenzo Sabine (born February 28, 1803 in Lisbon , Grafton County , New Hampshire , †  April 14, 1877 in Roxbury , Massachusetts ) was an American politician . In 1852 and 1853 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1811 Lorenzo Sabine moved with his parents to Boston , Massachusetts. Three years later the family moved to Hampden in what is now Maine . Sabine attended the public schools in his home country. At the age of 18, Sabine moved to Eastport , Maine. There he worked as an employee and in trade. He also edited the Eastport Sentinel newspaper. At the same time he embarked on a political career. Sabine served as an MP in the Maine House of Representatives in 1833 and 1834 . From 1841 to 1843 he was deputy head of Customs at Eastport. From 1848 he lived in Framingham, Massachusetts, where he served as a criminal judge.

Politically, Sabine became a member of the Whig Party . After the death of Congressman Benjamin Thompson , he was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on December 13, 1852, when the by-election was due for the fourth seat of Massachusetts . Since he did not want to be re-elected, he could only end the current legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1853 .

After his time in the US House of Representatives ended, Lorenzo Sabine moved to Roxbury. In the following years he served as secretary for the Boston City Trade Commission and the US Treasury Department . He died in Roxbury on April 14, 1877.
