Charles G. Washburn
Charles Grenfill Washburn (born January 28, 1857 in Worcester , Massachusetts , † May 25, 1928 in Lenox , Massachusetts) was an American politician . Between 1906 and 1911 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Charles Washburn attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute until 1875 and then studied at Harvard University until 1880 . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1887, he began to work in this profession. He was also involved in several craft businesses in his home country. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . He was a member of the House of Representatives from Massachusetts in 1897 and 1898 ; from 1899 to 1900 it belonged to the State Senateon. In 1902 he was a member of a commission to review the economic laws of his state. In 1904 and 1916 Washburn took part as a delegate at the respective Republican National Conventions .
After the death of MP Rockwood Hoar , Washburn was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC at the by-election due for the third seat of Massachusetts , where he took up his new mandate on December 18, 1906. After two re-elections, he could remain in Congress until March 3, 1911 . In 1910 he was not re-elected. After his tenure in the US House of Representatives was over, Washburn was a director of the Federal Reserve Bank in Boston. He also served as President of the Washburn Co. of Worcester . He died in Lenox on May 25, 1928.
