Henry L. Pierce

Henry Lillie Pierce (born August 23, 1825 in Stoughton , Norfolk County , Massachusetts , †  December 17, 1896 in Boston , Massachusetts) was an American politician . Between 1873 and 1877 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Henry Pierce attended State Normal School in Bridgewater after a good primary education . Then he worked in the craft. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1860 and 1862 and again in 1866 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Massachusetts . In 1870 and 1871 he was a member of the Boston City Council; In 1873 he was mayor of this city .

After the death of MP William Whiting , Pierce was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on December 1, 1873, when the by-election was due for the third seat of Massachusetts . After being re-elected, he could remain in Congress until March 3, 1877 . In 1876 he renounced another candidacy. After his time in the US House of Representatives, Henry Pierce was once again mayor of Boston in 1878, succeeding Frederick O. Prince . He died there on December 17, 1896.
